Public Outreach Specialist

Location: Brooklyn & Queens, NY (Field-Based)
Type: Full-Time, Contract
Pay Range: $25 – $30/hour
(Language differential available)

Position Overview

Public Outreach Specialists are the front-line representatives of the Lead Service Line Replacement Program. They engage directly with homeowners to inform, educate, and assist residents with program participation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct door-to-door outreach in assigned neighborhoods (always in teams of two or more)

• Educate homeowners about lead service line replacement, benefits, and procedures

• Assist residents with enrollment, consent forms, and Right-of-Entry documentation

• Respond to program-related phone calls and emails

• Attend tabling events, community meetings, and outreach events

• Maintain accurate records of homeowner interactions and outcomes

• Enter outreach data and notes into DEP systems (LeadCAST)

• Coordinate follow-ups for inspections, scheduling, and replacements

• Interact professionally and respectfully with diverse, multilingual communities

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required

• Minimum 3 years of experience in community outreach, public engagement, or customer service

• Comfortable with field-based work and resident interaction

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Multilingual skills (Spanish, Mandarin, Bengali, etc.) strongly preferred

• Government or utility program experience is a plus
